Wassail

Makes about 5 quarts
Ingredients
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 10 allspice berries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 gallon pressed apple cider
  • 2 cups cranberry juice
  • 2 cups port wine
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • ½ cup brandy
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
Instructions
  1. Place cloves, allspice berries, and cinnamon sticks on a small piece of cheesecloth. Bring edges of cheesecloth together to completely enclose spices; secure with kitchen twine.
  2. In a large stockpot, place sachet, cider, and all remaining ingredients; bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low; cook for 2 hours.
  3. Keep pot over low heat or use a slow cooker on low if serving over an extended period of time. Wassail can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
