8. Home Grown
Virginia-based blogger and homeowner Christen Bensten brings DIY style to her cozy white kitchen. “I want people to feel comfortable in my home and not like they have to tiptoe around my furnishings. I think my decorating style is high-end but also welcoming.” As her family grew, she and her husband decided to fulfill their dream of building a home together. The home-design project would launch a home-based business, too. “We had no budget for furniture after we completed construction, so I began to buy chairs secondhand and refinish them myself,” says Christen. “Our home and my painting hobby soon developed into a business, Blue Egg Brown Nest.”
