7 Lively Summer Flower Arrangements

Seven Summer Flower Arrangements

Settle into summer with magnificent floral displays for your home and outdoor spaces. You’ll find ample inspiration in our favorite centerpieces that incorporate the season’s bounty of colorful blossoms. Browse our list of seven summer flower arrangements sure to add an inviting touch to your décor and tabletops this time of year.

1. Pastel Pretties

The heady fragrance of fresh petals fills a bright sunroom that beckons guests to bask in its joyous warmth. Shades of blush, lilac, and cornflower accent glassware and linens, taking inspiration from an arrangement of peonies, carnations, snapdragons, and delphinium nestled in a bed of florist’s moss.

2. Bottled Sunshine

Given the season’s easy attitude, there’s no need to spring for a fancy vase to create a fetching display. Fill empty bottles with water, and arrange a grouping on the table. Tie them together with decorative twine, and finish with a pretty bow. (You may wish to create your assembly atop a tray or a cutting board for easier transport.) Add an assortment of fresh blooms in cheery colors, such as protea, dahlias, blue aster, and pink hydrangea.

3. Citrus Delight

For a small-scale idea on point for warm-weather entertaining, try this lively lemon posy holder that brings a sweet touch of hospitality. Cut the top off a lemon, and scoop out the pulp, leaving the rind intact; cut a thin slice from the bottom so it sits level. Add a bit of water, and fill with clipped ranunculus, roses, and other seasonal blossoms.

4. Fiery Finesse

Featured on the cover of our July/August 2023 issue, a radiant assemblage of ruby gerbera daisies, vivid ranunculus, white dahlias, and ivory spray roses is accompanied by bright green limes and variegated pittosporum for a showstopping focal point. See more of this enchanting poolside setup, along with a menu of Smoky Tomato Dip, Shrimp Cobb Salad with Blue Cheese Vinaigrette, Corn on the Cob with Garlic-Herb Butter, Blueberry Shortcakes, and Watermelon Frosé on pages 97–104 of the July/August 2023 issue.

5. Scents of Summer

Like the first soft rays of sunshine, this enchanting centerpiece awakens the senses. In addition to eye-catching blooms, the stunning bouquet perfumes the air with fragrant rosemary and mint. Start with a white pedestal urn and a few sprigs of lamb’s ear. Fill in with a mix of spray roses, geraniums, Monte Casino asters, purple coneflowers, Craspedia, and a peony or two. It will offer a scent that will be matched by its beauty.

6. Tropical Flair

For a centerpiece with an imaginative twist, turn to the season’s abundant produce, which can double as creative containers. To form the base, hollow out a pineapple using a sharp knife, and then insert wet floral foam. Next, fill with a lively medley of flora, such as ‘Coral Charm’ peonies, purple lisianthus, orange dahlias, blue veronica, gomphrena, and oakleaf hydrangea, as well as greenery like explosion grass and fern. To complete the presentation, set it on a woven serving tray with a few lemons to add a final note of sunny splendor.

7. Casual Cheer

Capture the laid-back feel of these relaxed months by pairing an assortment of bold blooms and vegetation with subtle fixtures that won’t steal the spotlight. Start with a rustic box, and place a vintage-inspired lantern at its center. From there, let your imagination be your guide in choosing a mix of seasonal produce and field flowers. We used zinnias in pale yellow, peach, and burnt orange, as well as gerbera daisies, stock, geranium leaves, and ferns. To finish, scatter heirloom tomatoes in a range of hues.
