Artfully Styled Coastal Home

Side by side shots of a home with a blue doorA charming Fairhope, Alabama, abode showcases a family’s knack for balancing decorative updates and comforts of home.

From painting the front door a brilliant blue to thoughtfully arranging coastal accents, Lisa Broadhead took inspiration from the beautiful surrounds of Mobile Bay for this interior refresh.Lisa traded a career in pharmaceutical sales for motherhood, seizing upon the extra time at home with her four children to hone her penchant for decorating. She transformed spaces into functional rooms that met her family’s needs and sense of style. Neighbors and friends soon recognized her natural talent and solicited her help with home projects of their own.
This home reflects Lisa’s eye for layering, and it’s also an extension of her family’s evolving tastes—from timeless nautical treasures to glamorous modern accents. “When we moved into this house, the kids really wanted some color,” Lisa says. “They actually have a good eye, and I do value their opinions. I want our home to be a happy place for them as well.”

Lisa’s commitment to family life largely influences her design aesthetic, as well as her affinity for incorporating color and accessories in unexpected ways. For instance, she chose to paint the hardwood floors stark white. “Everyone did think we were crazy,” Lisa says. “But I’ve had all different kinds of floors and with four kids, you have to really clean them regardless, so it works.”
Now working as a designer for a luxury real estate company, Lisa helps other homeowners achieve a sense of bliss. “Home is a retreat,” she says, “a place where a family feels excited to be together and happy to share their space with the people they love.”
