Digital-savvy generations return to pen and paper as a revitalized affinity for calling cards and sealing wax sparks fresh trends in bespoke social stationery collections. “In our busy world of digital communication, a handwritten note on personalized stationery always makes a big impression,” says Rebekah Caraway, who owns stationery shop Rebekah Caraway Design and Paper in Greenville, Mississippi.

In an era of email invites and social media messages, the art of custom stationery continues to flourish and keep old-fashioned correspondence as relevant and revered as ever. While the components of a traditional social stationery suite remain the same—note cards, writing paper, envelopes—some aspects of etiquette have relaxed and evolved with the times.
“There’s so much available now,” says Allison Banks, founder of Allison R. Banks Designs in Birmingham, Alabama. She encourages customers to follow their instincts when curating a tailor-made set. “Be playful with it. Do something that suits you and something you’re going to love for a long time,” says Allison.

Calling cards, or visiting cards, have come back into vogue in recent years for their versatility. They double as gift tags for wedding and birthday presents, as well as casual goodies for neighbors. When sending a thank-you as a group, Allison suggests including everyone’s individual calling cards for an extra special touch.
Wax seals also are in high demand these days, largely thanks to modern techniques and tools that are more user-friendly and less messy than the old-fashioned process. Online companies like Artisaire offer premade seals with organic edges and adhesive backing in a plethora of colors. Upload your own monogram or browse designs, such as botanical motifs and sweet sentiments.

Whether you’re drawn to fanciful accessories or prefer traditional sensibilities, the appeal of custom stationery is unfading. “I don’t think stationery will ever go out of fashion,” says Allison. “It shows the recipient how much you care simply because you put a stamp on it and sent it to them. It’s such a small thing, but it has a big impact.”
