Interesting art and precious heirlooms contribute to the personal sense of style that brings this dwelling to life.

With its mingling of stylish fittings and familial accents, the breakfast nook at Jemmy Neill’s Fairhope, Alabama, home exemplifies her approach to design. Jeramy’s handy husband built the impressive banquette, which provides both extra entertaining space and additional storage. Assorted pillows add color and pattern and tie into the rainbow of framed kids’ art hanging on the wall.

Throughout the master suite, splashes of ocean blue nod to the home’s coastal setting. Jeramy’s husband designed and built the linen-upholstered headboard trimmed with silver nailheads.

Ornate his-and-hers mirrors steal the show in the master bathroom, while baskets of towels combine style and function by hiding unsightly sink pipes.

“Shop around and be willing to redo well-loved pieces with modern, family- and pet-friendly fabrics so you can splurge on the accent pieces,” she advises. “Art, fabrics, and—funny enough—those family heirlooms and pictures are what make a house a home.”

Some of Jeramy’s favorite pieces are ones she grew up with in her Mississippi childhood home, including bamboo chairs that lend personality to the living room. “I brought the chairs into the 21st century with a peacock-blue velvet that could weather three kids, two dogs, and plenty of pool traffic,” she says.

The emphasis on family continues outdoors, where well-defined areas outfitted with the comforts of home extend opportunities for lounging, playing, and entertaining together.

“I wanted to create a beautiful and elegant oasis for our family to come home to on a daily basis, one that is filled with old family memories and those that we are making here on the coast,” says Jeramy.
