Regardless of the season, travelers won’t want to miss the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, which commemorates the life and art of renowned 20th-century painter Walter Inglis Anderson and his brothers, James McConnell Anderson and Peter Anderson. The museum’s permanent collection features ceramics, watercolors, oil paintings, and more. Local landmark Shearwater Pottery was founded in 1928 by Peter Anderson, the namesake of the town’s fall arts and crafts fest—Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival. The Anderson family’s artistic legacy lives on as children and relatives of the brothers continue to create distinctive earthenware that’s both beautiful and functional.
