The idea sprouted—as many tend to do—from a rocking chair on a wraparound porch. That’s where Elisabeth Peterson shared with friends her dream of selling the artisanal pepper products created by she and her husband, Kevin Oelhafen. Virginia Beach-based Pennacook Peppers has now grown to encompass a full line of specialty foods, including a signature Purely Pepper Powder, a variety of salsas, and even a pepper jelly with just the right amount of heat.
Kevin says the Purely Pepper Powder is perfect on “practically everything” from pizza to hot cocoa. The company also has a line of Porch Party Salsas inspired by his mother’s traditional canned salsa and a pepper jelly perfect alone or on cream cheese.
“Porch parties set that happy, ‘everyone’s invited’ kind of mood, and our products do the same,” Kevin says. “Whether you’re serving them up for a big gathering or a simple summer Saturday, you’re bound to feel festive.”
