A Savannah inn offers historical gardens and tranquil accommodations for a memorable summer getaway rich in comfort and charm.

In the heart of Savannah’s historic Landmark District, a pair of yellow mansions peek out from towering oaks. A 19th-century Queen Anne Italianate inn combines with proprietors Teresa and Jake Jacobson’s own home to make up the Azalea Inn & Villas. At the inn, soaring 11-foot ceilings and majestic murals take you back to a bygone era.

Teresa and Jake have converted their home into four vacation villas, with hardwood floors, full kitchens, and plenty of space for family fun.

The grounds are also a draw with stone paths, a small pool, and a pond. “Jake has set up heritage gardens that reflect the types of flowers and plants that would have been here when the main house was built in 1885,” explains innkeeper Shannon Blackburn.

The intoxicating scents of night-blooming jasmine, ginger, and rosemary from the inn’s herb garden mingle during summer evenings as guests gather under the stars for hors d’oeuvres and Shannon’s signature basil lemonade.

In the morning, the aroma of Savannah Roasters’ Good and Evil coffee offers the first hint of many breakfast specialties, which often include sweet Orange Cranberry Croissant Soufflé and Eggs al Pomodoro. Sightseeing is easy from this locale. And when the day’s adventures come to an end, let the warmth and comfort of Azalea Inn & Villas beckon you back to your home away from home.
