
What’s more satisfying than hot cider on a cool day? Try this rendition bursting with flavors of apple and pear, along with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, citrus, and ginger.
Hot Apple and Pear Cider with Vanilla
MAKES 6 TO 8 SERVINGS
Ingredients
- 4 pears, quartered
- 4 Pink Lady apples, quartered
- 1 orange, quartered
- ½ cup cane syrup
- 4 tablespoons vanilla extract, divided
- 2 tablespoons chopped ginger
- 5 whole cloves
- 4 allspice berries
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 cardamom pods
- 8 cups water
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- Garnish: apple slices, orange slices, pear slices, cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Place pears, apple, orange, cane syrup, 2 tablespoons vanilla, ginger, cloves, allspice, cinnamon, and cardamom into a 6-quart slow cooker. Add 8 cups water.
- Cover and cook on high until fruit is very soft and cider has slightly deepened in color, 4 hours.
- Strain cider through a fine-mesh sieve. Reduce slow cooker setting to warm and return cider mixture to slow cooker. Add remaining 2 tablespoons vanilla and lemon juice. Keep warm until ready to serve. Garnish with apple, orange, pear, and cinnamon, if desired.
