Mozzarella Toasts

Mozzarella Toasts
 
MAKES ABOUT 6 TO 8 SERVINGS
Ingredients
  • 12 thick slices Italian white bread,
  • 6 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 6 slices part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for sprinkling
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
  1. Divide cheese slices between half of bread slices. Sprinkle each evenly with Italian seasoning, oregano, and salt. Brush edges of bread with beaten egg and top with remaining bread slices. Press edges to seal and trim crusts.
  2. Add milk to remaining egg, whisking until combined.
  3. In a large skillet, heat oil and butter over medium heat.
  4. Lightly coat bread evenly with flour. Working in batches of 2, dip into egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Place in skillet and cook until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Sprinkle with more salt. Serve warm.
